Aging, Type 1 Diabetes & Cognitive Decline: A Stainless Steel Wrist Medical ID Band

A stainless steel ID bracelet for an 83 year old Type 1 diabetic who does not do well at all during hypoglycemic episodes. We crammed as much information as we could while keeping the size small enough that it is comfortable for him to wear all day. He has not taken it off much since 2023 when this was made.

The remnant stainless sheet was cut to size. Then the letters were etched first using CO2 laser after applying Dry Moly Lube spray to etch the surfaced. After a successful etching, the edges of the metal piece was rounded and then put through a metal bending brake(?) rollers (between two sheets of think cork not to damage the surface, until it was of an approximately the diameter and shape we had planned.

The edges were flanged out ever so slightly to keep them from catching his skin.

The etched letters were then used to retain oil based relief ink (black from Gans Ink, CA) and buffed clean to reveal the letters

We have a plan to add a hole big enough to sit and glue an Apple AirTag next.
