Who is Kiyoshi?
Kiyoshi is a common boy’s name in Japan. He embodies the archetype of a “tough, heroic” yet “vulnerable” character.
Despite living with insulin-dependent diabetes, Kiyoshi always wears medical devices on his arms (a CGM and and an insulin pump)—devices that are often uncomfortable and sometimes painful. These tools help him manage his ever changing blood sugar levels, enabling him to lead a healthier, longer life. Come rain or shine, Kiyoshi must maintain control over his blood sugar to avoid severe complications like amputations, blindness, and even death.
The app is rated for 12+ now. I would like users to employ Kiyoshi to express their daily struggles, as well as their triumphs and setbacks, with others facing the same lifelong challenges. I hope that users will share their experiences with caregivers and friends, who often misunderstand the minute-to-minute, round-the-clock nature of what they’re going through. I also would hope that by using some of these stickers, they can explain to others what some of the devices they wear and what they do, with ease.
